Ashbourne Giants A Come from Behind to Defeat Dublin City Hurricanes A 5-4

The Ashbourne Giants remained undefeated in Baseball Ireland’s A division with a 5-4 come from behind win over the Dublin City Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes drew first blood as veteran Tom Kelley doubled to center field and former professional player Timmy Rodriguez drove him in for a 1-0 lead. The Canes extended the lead to 2-0 when Jose Martinez scored on a wild pitch.

Catcher Alberto Romano was the hero in the 6th as the Giants tied the score 2-2. Romano drove in centerfielder with a triple to left field and then scored on a single by shortstop Sal Rizo. The Hurricanes took the lead back in their half of the 6th when Roberto Marquez scored.

The Giants bats continue to roar. In the 7th right fielder Devin Carrihall got on base on an error and advanced to second on Ryan Wiebe’s single. Carrihall and Wiebe then executed a double steal to put both runners in scoring position before Romano singled to score Carrihall. Game tied 3-3.

In the 8th, the Giants took the lead for good as Sal Rizo and Diego Corvalan scored on Hector Zambrano’s single to left field and the Giants took the lead 5-3.

The Hurricanes attempted a comeback in the bottom of the 9th. Tom Kelley hit a lead off double, stole 3rd base and scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-4. The Canes then proceeded to load the bases before Mike Johnson grounded out to Giants shortstop Sal Rizo to end the game.

Alberto Romano was the hero for the Giants going 4-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.
