The Ashbourne Giants U21 team travelled to Cork this weekend to defeat the Cork Cosmos 24-5.
Facing the Cosmos for the first time in league play, the Giants got off to a quick start, scoring 8 runs off starter Marco Sibiliano. Not ready to roll over, the Cosmos sent 10 men to the plate in their half of the first inning to respond with 5 runs of their own.
Realising that the win could slip through their fingers, the U21 responded with another big inning of their own, this time scoring 11 runs as they sent 17 batters to the plate.
In the bottom half of the inning, 15 year old Giant, David Linn, made his Irish Baseball League pitching debut. The young lad was on fire during the three innings he pitched, striking out 6 batters while surrendering no runs to close the door on the Cosmos.
