Giants A Jump to Early Lead to Remain Undefeated

The Ashbourne Giants A team continued its winning ways, defeating the Dublin Spartans 13-10 on Sunday.

After a scoreless opening inning, the Ashbourne Giants jumped on 2019 Pitcher of the Year, Brendan Scott and scored 7 runs in the 2nd inning. The inning was a team effort as the Giants sent 12 men. The runs were the result of 6 singles, a walk and 2 errors on the Spartans.

The Giants extended their lead to 10-0 in the top of the 4th with Diego Corvalan driving in a run on a hard hit double down the right field line. The Spartans answered with a run in their half of the 4th as Frank Andrews singled in Trevor Peacock. The Giants responded with a run in the top of the 5th when Fionn Gallahar-Hall drove in Brenden DeLange to reestablish the 10 run league.

The Spartans awoke in the latter half of the game as they scored a total of 9 runs to tighten the lead. However the Giants scored two insurance runs in their half of the 7th inning and ultimately prevailed 13-10.

The Giants offense was well balanced with 8 different players collecting hits. Ryan Wiebe, Fionn Gallahar-Hall and Miguel Moreno all had 3 hits for the Giants. Starter Eduardo Hernandez had 5 strike outs in 5 innings of 1 run ball. Jaime Cuevas came in to close out the game.

2019 MVP Jesse Cook led the Spartans with 3 hits (1 double) and 2 runs scored. Brenden Scott threw 147 pitches to go the distance for the Spartans.
