Giants U21 continue their winning ways in defeating Dublin City Hurricanes 15-5

The Ashbourne Giants U21 team earned their second win of the season Wednesday night by defeating the Dublin City Hurricanes 15-5 in B division play.

The Hurricanes got off to a quick start as catcher Dan Babcan hit a rocket to left field for a triple. Roberto Marquez drove him home for a quick 1-0 lead. Shortstop Ryan “Scarecrow” Wiebe showed excellent defensive range in the inning contributing to all three outs and make a web gem catch of a hard hit ball just inches off the ground to end the inning.

The Giants tied it up in the bottom of the first as lead off hitter David “Spider-Man” Linn drew a walk and stole second. He ultimately scored without the Giants scoring a hit as teammates Wiebe and Fionn “the Flash” Gallahar-Hall advanced him on two long hard hit fly outs to left field.

After a scoreless second, the Giants U21 took advantage as Hurricane starting pitcher Joe Zefran lost his control to score 4 runs in the 3rd.

The Giants U21 extended their lead to 11-2 in the 4th as Zefran continued to struggle.

The teams traded runs in the subsequent innings before Gallahar-Hall drove in the walk off winning run in the 6th with a hard single.

Feidhlim “Batman” Deering pitches 3.1 innings, giving up 3 runs for the win. Caspar Coffie pitched 2.2 innings in relief.

Linn, Wiebe and Gallahar-Hall led the offence. Linn scores 5 runs while drawing 4 walk and stealing a base. Wiebe went 2-4 (including a triple) with a walk, scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Gallahar-Hall went 3-4 with a walk and 3 RBIs.
